How long to wait to drink protein shakes after workouts?

I eat a healthy diet. For breakfast, I eat 2 eggs. For lunch, I usually eat spagetti and for dinner I have lots of veggies and meat or fish. I plan on drinking it after I work out which is the in the morning, during breakfast.
I am planning on drinking one serving per day. The reason I am wanting to drink it is to ‘bulk’ up. I do running and baseball. I run about 2-3 miles every day on weekdays. I also do light weight lifting every other day. Is it safe for me to drink it or should I wait? If I have to wait, then at what age can I start. What are the potential side effects if I drink it now? Sources will help and thanks for all the help.
All the answers so far are really good. I forgot to add that I do eat a good amount of fruits and that I am fit and have a six-pack and all already. My main purpose of drinking it is so I can build more muscles in my legs for running and having more power in my swing for baseball.
I am *not* drinking it as a replacement of a meal.
