Is taking vitamins on an empty stomach with not a lot of food bad?

Hi, recently I have started taking two seperate vitamins. It says to take them with food, anyway the other day I didn’t take them with food and got really sick. Today I took them, and had breakfeast (yogurt and a coffee) and still got the same ill feelings as the other day, like kind of feel car sick and like I might vomit. Does anyone know what is going on here?

YEs, this has happened to me. I don’t think the stomach has the food to coat the lining so it reacts to the vitamins.
Anyway, it is advised to take vitamins with meals. Be careful if you are taking separate vitamins because some vitamins cancel out others or cause malabsorption of some nutrients in your food. You might want to research before taking anything other than a one-a-day vitamin. Good Luck!

At least drink a glass of water when you take a concentrated source like a vitamin.

That’s why you are supposed to take them with food. Have a glass of milk or a slice of toast first. Drink some water. Don’t drink the coffee until a little later.

There could be a couple of reasons why. One is the food yes, never take vitamins on an empty stomach. The other is if your brand of vitamins is the typical well known brand. The vitamins are compacted and covered in lacquers and tar, not too mention lead and other contaminants. These lacquers and tar prevent the vitamin from dissolving in your stomach and sometimes sticking to the side of your stomach. Another poster on here turned me on to a website for vitamins that has a vitamin test on it. This way you can see if your vitamins are dissolving the way that they should. If they are not then your vitamins and all of it’s nutritional value is not being absorbed by your body and they being deposited in your urine. Supplements and vitamins need to be absorbed by your body withing 30 minutes otherwise they will not work. Check it out at Holisticpetmenu.com Go to the people section and look on the left side for the vitamin test..it’s really cool and it works!

It’s always a good idea to take your vitamins with food….
The main reason is that your body will release enzymes to break down the food that you’re eating. These same enzymes are used to break down supplemental vitamins…. Supplemental vitamins (vitamin pills, etc.), are very difficult to break down if they are simply submerged in water!… Try taking a vitamin pill and dropping it into a glass of water. You can let it sit over-night and in the morning, it still won’t be completely dissolved…. That’s what happens in your digestive system when you take them on an empty stomach….
The most likely cause of your upset stomach is that your digestive system is working very hard in its attempts at absorbing a solid object…. Very hard to do!… Hence, rejection of the foreign matter (vomiting), would seem to be the most logical course for your body to take….
As far as the coffee is concerned,… NEVER take vitamins with coffee or any other caffeinated drink!… The caffeine negates (neutralizes), the effects of the vitamins!… BTW, coffee and yogurt?… That’s hardly breakfast….

Hope this was helpful!… Good luck!…
