What is a good alternative to taking pre-natal vitamins when the vitamins make you throw up?

cheesey :) asked:

yes, i’m going to ask my doctor but my appointment isn’t until next week. i just found out i was pregnant for the 2nd time, and it will be my first appointment. i immediately got some vitamins (i did the same w/ my first child) and i have thrown up each time i have taken them…(i also did w/ my first child, so i just didn’t take them) i would like to know if anyone else has had this issue and what you did other than just not taking them.

The make chewable prenatal vitamins. I took them and they were actually quiet tasty! I also took them at night with a granola bar and water just because even though I could get them in my body I still felt a bit nauseated. Good luck!!!

I would try the gummy ones or children’s chewables. That’s what my S-I-L had to do as well. I also think they make a liquid vitamin now too.

They really are not necessary. A normal balanced diet is more than good enough, despite the scare stories you’ll hear! :) Regarding folic acid, not only are umpteen foods fortified with it these days (breads, pastas, cereals), but there are many natural sources (greens, avocado, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, etc). Also, spina bifida is linked to folate deficiency, which is quite rare in modern developed countries. Eat lots of protein, and in the second trimester, up your iron intake with lean red meats, beans and rice, apricots, almonds, etc. It’s not hard at all.
I never take those vitamins! LOL I have a brilliant healthy toddler and am 8 weeks with #2.

**LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently I have been scaring the sheeple…run guys run! Go ask the Ob/Gyn who has NO clue about nutrition about taking vitamins, and believe what he says….go on, do it. Haaaaaaa ;)

It is most likely the iron in the vitamins that is making you sick, try a regular or children’s chewable multivitamin and a folic acid supplement, the folic acid only pills are about the size of a birth control pill and cost about $3 for a bottle, I have high iron level due to a blood disorder and so I couldn’t take the regular prenatals so I took a multivitamin without iron and a folic only.
