Can anyone recommend a good pest control for herbs?

first year our herbs (corriander and mint) where destroyed by greenfly, last year by black fly. obviously we want to eat them so would something systemic be out of the question?

We use about a tablespoonful of dish or liquid laundry soap mixed with a pint of water in a spray bottle. Spray it on before the beasties show up, and after a rain or after you water the garden. You can even use this directly on the insects themselves. Just be sure to rinse your herbs well when you pick them, as you don’t want that soapy taste, even though it’s not toxic to humans.
