What are the best kind of prenatal vitamins to take when trying to conceive?
April 17th, 2009 | by Vitamin Advisor |Hoping he will bless me with #1 asked:
I hear you should start taking prenatal vitamins when trying to conceive. What are the best kind to buy? I live in Texas if that helps. I also have PCOS and have never been pregnant. So I am going to try Clomid in a few weeks.

I take One Source….you can pick them up at Wal-Mart or your local pharmacy. They only cost about $8 for a huge bottle. They have a good source of folic acid and all your needed vitamins. Good luck to you.

Prenatal vitamins wont help you conceive!! You need to do the conception thing on days 7 to 14 after your period.

Ask your doctor for some advice for the vitamins and minerals you should take. Good luck.

I use OneSource prenatal. I’m just preparing in case I do get pregnant. They are the best i’ve had, the pills are nice and small, about the size of a tylenol capsule, and they don’t stick to your throat.

If you are planning a pregnancy, definitely start vitamin-ing up now. Folic acid is super important early on.
Most prenatal vitamins are the same, although some tend to cause nausea more than others depending on the person. I do recommend taking the prescription form versus the over-the-counter that are available. The typically have omegas.

folic acid helps prevent downs syndrome and spina bifida aswel. So start taking these whilst trying to conceive aswel take an iron supplement and maybe some magnesium. Plenty of vitamin c as this keeps your energy levels up even though you aren’t pregnant yet its a good idea for all that sexing you are going to be doing. Good Luck and happy baby making. xxx

Just take a generic over the counter one and you’ll be fine. I take over the counter pre natals and me an the baby are healthy. (plus perscription ones are way more expensive.)
Tip: they do not help you to conceive, they only give you the vitamins you need to grow a baby and provide them with the vitamins they need.

I don’t think the brand makes a difference — you just want to make sure you’re taking one with lots of folic acid. Otherwise, it’s actually best to try to get as many of your vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from your diet as possible — don’t rely on the supplement to do it for you. OJ, leafy greens, broccoli, lentils, and strawberries are good sources of folate as well.

Folic acid at least 1mg. My husband and I both took it. Its great for the baby and can increase fertility. And I heard b12 is also great for upping fertility.
