How early can I give vitamins for toddlers?
September 16th, 2009 | by Vitamin Advisor |~stuck in California~ asked:
My son will be 12 month in two weeks and we are pretty much switched to regular milk now. I worry though that he is not getting enough vitamins yet from regular food. How early can I start vitamins? Something maybe like Flinstones?
I forgot to mention that he is a lousy eater. I wish he ate more but the way it is right now even with veggies and fruit I do not believe is sufficient at the moment. I hope he pics up on food soon.

If you buy fresh fruit and vegetable and cook them for your son, I believe he will get enough vitamins from regular food.
In giving vitamin tablets you are giving him also chemicals……

You would have to give him the liquid vitamins until he is two. That’s what I did with my daughter. The only problem with the liquid kind is that it’s tricky to give it to them as it tastes and smells awful. When he turns two, there are Flintstone vitamins that are specifically for 2 and 3 year olds.
Edit: That is the same reason I put my daughter on vitamins in the first place…. she was not eating much. She’s still a picky eater. My doctor is actually the one that recommended she start vitamins at a year old.

I started my son on Omega 3 DHA by Dr. Sears, in liquid form. He’s 16 months old. Here is the link if you are interested.

i agree with Anja. use a food processor and prepare fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. you can give him some cooked oatmeal or cream of wheat. cooked cereals contain a lot of vitamins and iron. give him 100% fruit juices. don’t give him anything with added sugar or salt. yogurt is also good for toddlers. the main thing is to give him a variety of different foods so he doesn’t get bored and stop eating. some vitamins can be damaging to developing teeth because of the iron content. it is better to get vitamins from fresh foods.

Go ahead and start them. They have gummy vitamins for little children. We started vitamins at 12 months, and he thought it was like candy he loved them! So once a day we give it to him. And it is usually before his bath time. So everytime before his bath time he says fish! (thats what kind of vitamins they are) and he takes them with no problem.
